Colors is the original line of colored contact lenses, featuring a special dot matrix feature that was, quite revolutionary when it was first introduced. At the time, colored lenses of the olden days were a smeared block of color across the lens and looked very fake. Freshlook Colors’ dot matrix system let some of your natural color show, enough to look more natural, but not enough to be noticeable.

Freshlook then improved on the naturalness of their lenses by introducing Colorblends, which layered three different colors to further duplicate the complicated textures of your irises. Aside from the main color that dominates the lens, a slightly softer complimentary color surrounds the hole saved for your pupil and a darker color lines the outer borders of the lens. The effect is much more subtle than the Colors series, and people will mistake the lenses for your real eye color.

Colors come in blue, sapphire blue, misty gray, violet, green and hazel. Colorblends has a more diverse palette, with gray, green, amethyst, blue, brown, pure hazel and honey. The honey, gray, green and blue colors of the Colorblends series are also available in Toric lenses, for individuals with astigmatism.

If you wish to only enhance your appearance, instead of changing the color of your eyes entirely, you could go with Freshlook’s Radiance or Dimensions. Dimensions is great for light colored eyes, adding depth and a shimmer to your eyes with colors such as Sea Green, Caribbean Aqua and Pacific Blue. Radiance, on the other hand, doesn’t change the color of your eyes, but manages to really make them sparkle brighter, thanks to the intense starburst configuration in the lenses. Colors include Moonlight for blue eyes, Eden for green eyes, and Sunrise and Autumn for brown eyes.

You can also wear colored contact lenses even if you have no problems with your eyesight. However, you can’t just quickly buy a pair over the counter, your eye doctor will want to examine and measure your eyes first, to make sure that your new contact lenses fit you properly. Your contact lens prescription will not just contain a grade for your eyes, or rather, no grade, but also details such as base curve and eye diameter.

While efforts have been made to improve Freshlook colored contacts and make them as natural-looking as possible, some unsatisfied customers find the layered colors of the Colorblends series rather fake looking, especially under certain lighting. Others find that the dot matrix system only helps your eyes look natural if your natural color blends well with the colored contacts you chose, which doesn’t really make for much diversity. Most of these customers feel especially appalled that they actually bought a box of unflattering contact lenses.

Still, other customers love the many colors that are on offer and that there are contact lenses that enhance your natural color, as with Dimensions and Radiance. And Freshlook has found a solution to being able to try as many colors as you can, by introducing Freshlook One Day, the new daily disposable lenses available in Colorblends colors pure hazel, green, gray and blue.

However, those who have not tried wearing contact lenses before will find the entire exercise uncomfortable, even painful. Soft contact lenses will feel alien to first time wearers and some brands, even if they’re touted to be soft contact lenses, will feel hard and bulky to sensitive eyes.

Acuvue is a brand that’s well-known for comfort, as their contact lenses are ultra-thin and mostly composed of water, ensuring that you hardly feel them when you put them on. Acuvue, particularly Acuvue 2 colors, is one of the most comfortable ways to change the color of your eyes.

Acuvue has recently introduced a new set of colored Acuvue contacts that work to emphasize the brilliance of light eyes, as well as renaming the colors of their opaque contact lenses, to give a more accurate description of the available shades. The Acuvue Enhancers have three colors you can choose from - Ocean Blue, Aquamarine and Emerald Green, with Aquamarine being somewhere in between blue and green, darker and less vibrant than the other two colors. Acuvue Opaques have two different shades each of blue, green and brown, and one shade of gray called Pearl Gray. There’s the brighter Sapphire and the richer Deep Blue, Chestnut Brown and Warm Honey, and Jade and Hazel Green. The Opaques are meant to completely cover your eye and change its color.

The Enhancer colors contact lenses can only be worn by people with light eyes. These Enhancers are actually transparent and meant to really enhance your natural color. People with green eyes will discover a new brilliance to their eye color when using Emerald Green, for example. To make the new eye color as natural as possible, Enhancers have a very thin layer of color covering the hole meant for the pupil, that big black circle found in the middle of your eye, which you need to see.

Unfortunately, there are users who do not like the size of the pupil hole found in Opaque Acuvue 2 contact lenses; they find it too big, sometimes allowing their natural color to be visible. They are still nice to look at, but other people tend to compliment wearers on their nice contacts, instead of their nice eyes. Colored contact lens wearers of course would rather their new eye color look as natural as possible. People with darker eyes who wish to try the enhancer colors may not even see another color in their eyes.

Acuvue 2 colors contact lenses are available for both those who need to correct their vision as well as those who don’t have to wear corrective lenses or glasses. However, an eye doctor will still need to examine and measure your eyes and fill out a prescription that allows you to order and purchase colored contact lenses.

This is important to assure that the doctor prescribes a good fit of contact lenses for you; many complaints about contact lenses are from individuals who weren’t fitted properly. Your doctor, whose main job is to overview the condition of your eyes and vision, should also be able to determine if you can wear contacts at all.

Wesley Jessen is one of the pioneers of colored contact lenses, and has made several types of Durasoft contact lenses, advancing the quality of the contact lenses each time. Back then, the color in their contacts were like paint smears of color on your lenses, with the perfunctory hole in the middle for your pupil. With the new types introduced, Durasoft colors now look more natural and offer better choices for all kinds of eyes, even astigmatic ones.

The most realistic looking of the Durasoft line are the Colorblends series. Durasoft 2 Colorblends are daily wear lenses that come in blue, green, gray and brown. Compared to the Durasoft 2 Opaques, which are an earlier series, the colors of the Colorblends series are darker and more realistic looking. Although the Durasoft 2 Opaques have improved since their first issue, they still look a bit too bright and vibrant, especially the blue, green and gray colors. The remaining color in this series, the hazel, is so far the most natural looking and the most popular.

The Durasoft 2 line, as mentioned, features daily wear soft contact lenses that can last up to nine to twelve months. They are composed of a polymer called phemfilcon, making up 62% of the lens, while the remaining 38% is water.

The Durasoft 3 line, on the other hand, features flexible extended wear contact lenses. The difference between daily and extended wear is that with daily wear lenses, you are advised to remove and store your contacts before you go to sleep, while you can sleep in with your extended wear contact lenses for up to a week before cleaning. The Durasoft 3 line is made of 45% phemfilcon polymer and 55% water.

Durasoft 3 Opaques come in a more arresting array of shades, including Emerald Green, Jade Green, Violet, Chestnut Brown, Hazel, Baby Blue, Sapphire Blue, Aqua, and Misty Grey. For those who’d rather get darker, less bright eyes, you could try the Durasoft 3 Colorblends, which have additional colors such as Honey and Turquoise. For those who’d rather change their eye color with more subtlety, try the Durasoft 3 Complements. The Complements series employ the color of your eyes to combine with the colors in the lens for a dramatic effect. Complements colors come in Blue, Blue Violet, Green, Brown and Shadow Gray.

Individuals with astigmatism can also enjoy changing up their eye color, with Durasoft 2 Optifit Toric Opaque Colors. Toric lenses are specially shaped according to your prescription and colored toric lenses are gaining popularity. Durasoft 2 Optifit Toric contact lenses are available in Hazel, Green, Gray and Blue. Being a daily wear soft contact lens, it is made of 62% phemfilcon polymer and 38% water.

The downside to Durasoft contact lenses is they tend to be more expensive than other brands, and especially more expensive than disposable lenses, which are proving to be more convenient and comfortable for soft contact lens wearers. Also, if a user doesn’t like the color they bought, they can just dispose of it, unlike the Durasoft lenses which they’ll have to wear for a year. Disposable lenses, however, do not stand up to Durasoft’s durability and ability to actually correct your vision.

If you’re only getting colored contact lenses to enhance your wardrobe and probably don’t need vision correction, you’re probably going to want to try out a pair of contact lenses first and find out for yourself what it feels like, before getting a prescription and buying an entire box. Luckily, most brands allow free trials.

Usually, contact lens trial pairs have no corrective grading in them, they’re just a pair of colored contact lenses you can try on. Some brands or stores allow customers to take trial lenses home to show family and friends. This may sound like a good free pair already for those who don’t need vision correction to begin with, but they’re also usually marked with the word “test.” As we said, it’s only a trial pair.

Acuvue 2 Colors contact lenses and Freshlook Colors contact lenses both offer free trials, and you can apply for the trial certificates online. Both brands will ask for your contact info and address, the latter particularly if you agree to receiving promotional materials from the company through the mail.

Both will also ask you which contact lenses you are interested in. Acuvue’s selection range is wide, and perhaps confusing for first timers, so they have included the “I don’t know” option, which will alert the Acuvue Lens Advisors to determine a lens that will most fit your needs, according to an additional list of questions. These optional questions include whether you are wearing any devices to correct your vision, the level of your eyes’ dryness, whether you are engaged in a little or a lot of physical activity, whether or not you have astigmatism, among others.

The FreshLook Colors contact lens trial certificate application does not ask these questions, as it is already clear that you are already interested in trying out their colored contact lenses.

Contact lenses can only be bought if your eye doctor, an optometrist or an opthalmologist, gives you a prescription for it. Even if you don’t need corrective lenses and are just getting colored contact lenses to go with your diverse wardrobe, these contact lenses need to be fitted properly to ensure that you will maintain good eyes and vision in the long run.

Aside from the complete eye and vision examination, your doctor will see how and for what purpose you’ll be using your contact lenses. You will also need to get your eye surface measured, and try on samples, as well as be taught how to handle contact lenses, cleaning and storing them and, most importantly, how to insert them into and remove them from your eyes. Doctors will also require follow up appointments a few weeks after you take home your new lessons, to check how you’ve adjusted to your new lenses.

Especially if you’ve never had to wear contact lenses before, you should know that contact lenses take a little getting used to. Your eyes will need to adjust to the foreign objects in your eyes and may experience dryness, discomfort and shifting lenses in the beginning. Acquiring contact lenses from your eye care professional will assure that much of this discomfort is lessened by getting measured properly and allowing your doctor to determine what are the best lenses for you.

While there are many new ways to make your eyes look great today, one of the really hot things out there that can make your eyes look great are colored contact lens. In fact, these colored contacts are growing so much in popularity that there are constantly new color contact lens styles and colors available so you can make your own fashion statement with your eyes. Basically, colored contact lenses are similar to regular contacts, but they are colored to make your eyes appear a different color. They give you the ability to change your eye color with your mood or with your outfit so you can look stunning all of the time.

The Different Types of Colored Contact Lenses

When it comes to getting colored contacts, you have a lot of options available to you. While there are options for those who need prescription lenses, there are many colored contacts available for those who don’t even need to have a prescription. There are a variety of different colors that you can choose from as well. You can find green, brown, amethyst, blue and even black lenses as well. Some of these colored contacts also provide definition to your eyes, while others actually make your eyes appear as if they are sparkling. There are many to choose from and you are sure to find the right pair that suits your lifestyle and ones that will make your eyes look great.

Why Women Love Colored Contacts

Women especially love colored contact lenses. If you are trying to highlight your eyes with colored contacts, these lenses work far better than any type of eye makeup out there. You can make your eyes compliment whatever outfit you choose to wear, or you can even pick out the best color for your complexion and hair color as well. Wearing these contacts allows women to look and feel their best. They know their eyes are looking great, which gives them more confidence and a feeling of beauty.

Choosing the Right Color for Your Eyes

When you are choosing your colored contact lenses, you are going to want to be sure that you pick the right color for your eyes. If you have dark eyes and you want to go with blue contacts, you’ll have to pick out a pair that covers up your dark eyes. Sapphire is a look that will look great and it really looks beautiful on people who have dark hair. Green is a great color as well and if your eyes are dark you’ll need to go with a green lens that is opaque so it covers your dark eye color. For people who have dark eyes and dark skin, amethyst contacts are beautiful as well and they are sure to make you stand out in a crowd, since they look so unusual.
