Durasoft Colored Contacts

Wesley Jessen is one of the pioneers of colored contact lenses, and has made several types of Durasoft contact lenses, advancing the quality of the contact lenses each time. Back then, the color in their contacts were like paint smears of color on your lenses, with the perfunctory hole in the middle for your pupil. With the new types introduced, Durasoft colors now look more natural and offer better choices for all kinds of eyes, even astigmatic ones.

The most realistic looking of the Durasoft line are the Colorblends series. Durasoft 2 Colorblends are daily wear lenses that come in blue, green, gray and brown. Compared to the Durasoft 2 Opaques, which are an earlier series, the colors of the Colorblends series are darker and more realistic looking. Although the Durasoft 2 Opaques have improved since their first issue, they still look a bit too bright and vibrant, especially the blue, green and gray colors. The remaining color in this series, the hazel, is so far the most natural looking and the most popular.

The Durasoft 2 line, as mentioned, features daily wear soft contact lenses that can last up to nine to twelve months. They are composed of a polymer called phemfilcon, making up 62% of the lens, while the remaining 38% is water.

The Durasoft 3 line, on the other hand, features flexible extended wear contact lenses. The difference between daily and extended wear is that with daily wear lenses, you are advised to remove and store your contacts before you go to sleep, while you can sleep in with your extended wear contact lenses for up to a week before cleaning. The Durasoft 3 line is made of 45% phemfilcon polymer and 55% water.

Durasoft 3 Opaques come in a more arresting array of shades, including Emerald Green, Jade Green, Violet, Chestnut Brown, Hazel, Baby Blue, Sapphire Blue, Aqua, and Misty Grey. For those who’d rather get darker, less bright eyes, you could try the Durasoft 3 Colorblends, which have additional colors such as Honey and Turquoise. For those who’d rather change their eye color with more subtlety, try the Durasoft 3 Complements. The Complements series employ the color of your eyes to combine with the colors in the lens for a dramatic effect. Complements colors come in Blue, Blue Violet, Green, Brown and Shadow Gray.

Individuals with astigmatism can also enjoy changing up their eye color, with Durasoft 2 Optifit Toric Opaque Colors. Toric lenses are specially shaped according to your prescription and colored toric lenses are gaining popularity. Durasoft 2 Optifit Toric contact lenses are available in Hazel, Green, Gray and Blue. Being a daily wear soft contact lens, it is made of 62% phemfilcon polymer and 38% water.

The downside to Durasoft contact lenses is they tend to be more expensive than other brands, and especially more expensive than disposable lenses, which are proving to be more convenient and comfortable for soft contact lens wearers. Also, if a user doesn’t like the color they bought, they can just dispose of it, unlike the Durasoft lenses which they’ll have to wear for a year. Disposable lenses, however, do not stand up to Durasoft’s durability and ability to actually correct your vision.
