Colored Contacts Trial
If you’re only getting colored contact lenses to enhance your wardrobe and probably don’t need vision correction, you’re probably going to want to try out a pair of contact lenses first and find out for yourself what it feels like, before getting a prescription and buying an entire box. Luckily, most brands allow free trials.
Usually, contact lens trial pairs have no corrective grading in them, they’re just a pair of colored contact lenses you can try on. Some brands or stores allow customers to take trial lenses home to show family and friends. This may sound like a good free pair already for those who don’t need vision correction to begin with, but they’re also usually marked with the word “test.” As we said, it’s only a trial pair.
Acuvue 2 Colors contact lenses and Freshlook Colors contact lenses both offer free trials, and you can apply for the trial certificates online. Both brands will ask for your contact info and address, the latter particularly if you agree to receiving promotional materials from the company through the mail.
Both will also ask you which contact lenses you are interested in. Acuvue’s selection range is wide, and perhaps confusing for first timers, so they have included the “I don’t know” option, which will alert the Acuvue Lens Advisors to determine a lens that will most fit your needs, according to an additional list of questions. These optional questions include whether you are wearing any devices to correct your vision, the level of your eyes’ dryness, whether you are engaged in a little or a lot of physical activity, whether or not you have astigmatism, among others.
The FreshLook Colors contact lens trial certificate application does not ask these questions, as it is already clear that you are already interested in trying out their colored contact lenses.
Contact lenses can only be bought if your eye doctor, an optometrist or an opthalmologist, gives you a prescription for it. Even if you don’t need corrective lenses and are just getting colored contact lenses to go with your diverse wardrobe, these contact lenses need to be fitted properly to ensure that you will maintain good eyes and vision in the long run.
Aside from the complete eye and vision examination, your doctor will see how and for what purpose you’ll be using your contact lenses. You will also need to get your eye surface measured, and try on samples, as well as be taught how to handle contact lenses, cleaning and storing them and, most importantly, how to insert them into and remove them from your eyes. Doctors will also require follow up appointments a few weeks after you take home your new lessons, to check how you’ve adjusted to your new lenses.
Especially if you’ve never had to wear contact lenses before, you should know that contact lenses take a little getting used to. Your eyes will need to adjust to the foreign objects in your eyes and may experience dryness, discomfort and shifting lenses in the beginning. Acquiring contact lenses from your eye care professional will assure that much of this discomfort is lessened by getting measured properly and allowing your doctor to determine what are the best lenses for you.
